Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t have a car and I want to come to north star! Pls help

We will create a rideshare doc after launch and for pairing open seats with carless butts. Last year, no. one got stuck at the airport. Do all you can, but if you fail, we got you.

Where is it, exactly?

Elkenmist is 90 minutes from Portland. Here’s an approximate map point, for your planning needs

What does “we’re not throwing the party- you are!” mean? I'm not prepared to throw a party.

That's fine. This is more of a philosophical statement. Often, one group is responsible for providing the Product, and the other group is responsible for consuming it. We're trying for something a little more collaborative. Less of a demand, it's more an offer to put power in the hands of attendees.

We’ve strung the guitar. Now, we make it sing, together. You contribute your company and your Selfness. It's fine to just come to vibe. It's also fine to do something outlandish. You can make a cake in the shape of Rahu and behead it in on Sunday afternoon. You can bring your drums. You can ask for us to write on the daily activity board that you would like to trade divination at 4pm.

This is designed to put power in your hands. we're not in total control. you, too, are throwing the party.

Ok nvm that sounds tight. What airport should I fly into?

we suggest pdx. its closest, and, if you need a ride, has the most attendees traveling to and from.

can you help me find a tent

absolutely. There will be some infrastructure for us to help you with this.

How many people will be there

Last year we had 66 people attend and this year we expect 60-100.

Start and end time

Thursday morning & afternoon will have people rolling in, setting up, and settling in. 3pm is the earliest prgramming is expected to start. This specific time is slightly subject to change, plus or minus 3 hours. we'll be "done" on 4pm sunday, but the blessed among you may feel like sticking around to assist with breakdown.

Water

Elkenmist has plenty of water, but we suggest every camper bring in enough drinking water for themselves, so we can go lightly on their water table as possible. A suggestion is 1 gallon per person per day. There will be hand washing stations by the composting toilets and kitchen The land has a gorgeous brook running through it. Water levels are unpredictable in the summer, but it is likely to be suitable for anyone with an reliable filtration system

Can I help?

Love that energy. volunteering is a great way to make friends and feel like you've got something specific to do. IT's also a great way to support the event. Breakfast set up, altar set up, camp takedown, parking on friday- all these things will be ripe for help.

who’s cooking for 80 people?

Elkenmist’s own resident caterer Sarah will be planning prepping and serving lunch & dinner for us each day. Breakfast will be a more laid back affair set out by sarah and assembled by volunteers.

What's the campground like?

125 acres of fields and forests ft. a shaded orchard and many hiking trails.

There's both shaded and unshaded camping, plus limited car camping. You're good to bring in camper van too, just hit us up via email so we can be sure we don't overbook it. The campground has 3 composting toilets, one outdoor show, a sauna, and an outdoor kitchen where we'll have meals.

Can i bring my dogs?

No. We will be at peak animal capacity

Can kids come to North Star?

not this year. North Star is a 21+ event barring special waiver for legal adults under 21.

I have an access need, can we figure that out?

please email us at northstarcampout@gmail.com so we can sort it. The sooner the better
